The Fund for Railway Accidents Involving Designated Goods (the Fund) plays a critical role in ensuring the well-being of those affected by major crude-by-rail accidents. The devastating 2013 derailment in Lac-Mégantic shed light on the urgency to fortify Canada’s railway liability and compensation framework. In response, 2016 saw the enactment of new legislation, ensuring that adequate resources are in place to address rail accidents. The Fund, a specialized account under the Canada Transportation Act, plays a pivotal role in this mission.
As part of its continued growth and evolution, we are seeking a forward-thinking executive to join this dynamic team as the Director, Railway Fund.
Reporting to the Administrator and Deputy Administrator, the Director, Railway Fund will lead efforts to ensure the readiness of the Administrator’s Office for handling claims in the event of a railway accident falling under the Fund’s jurisdiction. This role involves guiding and overseeing a team dedicated to delivering high-quality, relevant support aligned with the Fund’s objectives.
The ideal candidate will bring leadership experience from the insurance and/or regulatory sectors, ideally with a focus on transportation and/or rail. Knowledge of claims administration and risk/crisis management protocols is highly valued. You are an excellent communicator with a demonstrated ability to work with and engage a wide range of stakeholders. Leading and developing agile, high-performing teams has been instrumental to your success. Strategic thinking, exceptional judgment and decision-making skills will be invaluable in fulfilling the Fund’s mission. A degree in public/business administration or a related field is sought, and proficiency in both official languages is preferred.
This is an opportunty to make a meaningful impact on Canada’s railway industry by working to safeguard the well-being of those affected by railway accidents.
