On Friday July 12, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) informed both CN and CPKC that they would be issuing their decision on Friday August 9, in response to the Labour Minister’s referral to the CIRB on the question of “Essential Services” in the event of a strike or lockout.

If strike or lockout action is allowed, a 72 hour notice will be required by the party initiating the work stoppage. CPKC is requesting that the CIRB require a 30-day “cooling off” period after the CIRB decision before the 72-hour notice can be given.

The CN and CP notices can be accessed below:

FMA will keep the membership informed as new information becomes available.
