BCMEA to Commence Bargaining with Longshore Workers at West Coast Ports

The BC Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) has sent notice to the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) to commence bargaining for the agreements that will expire on March 31, 2023. BCMEA expects negotiations to start in January.

The BCMEA notice states as follows.

Notice is required pursuant to the Canada Labour Code and collective agreements to be served four (4) months before the expiry of the current collective agreements. These agreements cover wages, benefits, hours of work and employment conditions for over 7,400 longshore workers and foremen at Canada’s West Coast ports.

These expiring agreements were included in the FMA list of 2023 major expiring transportation labour agreements sent to FMA members earlier this year.
