The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) 375 has informed its members today, March 14, that the employer bargaining agent, the Maritime Employers Association (MEA), has issued a final offer to the union on late Friday, March 12. The CUPE memorandum to its members is available only in French and that memo can be found by clicking on the red bar below.

The union president stresses that this is an offer, and is not an agreement in principle between the parties. There are no details on the content of the MEA offer.

The memo goes on to state that the executive committee will be undertaking a detailed analysis of the offer and will be submitting it for a vote by the members, and will also be scheduling a a special general meeting of members at a date to be communicated . The memo does not so state, but presumably the union executive committee will make a recommendation to the membership whether or not to accept the offer.

Separate from the final offer, the memo also states that there will be a hearing before the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) on Monday, March 15 to discuss a complaint brought by the MEA. The letter does not provide any detail on the MEA complaint.

FMA will arrange for a translation of the CUPE memo which will be circulated to the members. We will keep the membership informed as new information becomes available.
