CP expects operating conditions to remain seasonal across the network.

CP is proactively monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic situation and taking appropriate action where required. Demand is balanced across all fleets. Car velocity is strong which is providing strong levels of order fulfillment on the network.

CP key operational performance categories for carload traffic for the week ending May 3, 2020:

Weekly carloads: 28,409 (previous week: 30,135)

Carload on-time performance: 85.5% (previous week: 92.4%)

Average train speed: 22.2 MPH (previous week: 22.7 MPH)

Average terminal dwell: 6.5 hours (previous week: 6.1 hours)

1) AJot reports on Air Canada Lingering Impacts

AJOT quotes Air Canada CEO, Calin Rovinescu as stating “this as the darkest period ever in commercial aviation”. The full article can be found at the first red bar below.

2) IATA and the UPU warn of air capacity shortage for global postal services

IATA and the Universal Postal Union (UPU) note that airmail services are primarily carried on passenger flights. A 95% reduction in passenger flights coupled with an increase in e-commerce, is leading to a significant capacity problem and IATA s asking for support from national governments.
