Trans-Pacific Partnership

January 24, 2018

Yesterday, January 23rd, the Canadian government announced that agreement has been reached with 10 other Pacific nations on the new Trans-Pacific partnership.  It is now formally called the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for the Trans-Pacific Partnership. (CPTPP).  The government announced that the formal signing of the agreement will take place in March 2018.

This link will take you to the government CPTPP website that provides more details on the agreement.

With the uncertainty surrounding the future of NAFTA, the CPTPP and the CETA agreement, signed last year with European countries last year, will be important elements in increasing Canadian trade with growing economies outside of North America.

FMA has contacted Global Affairs Canada with regard to providing a briefing on CETA for FMA members and will now expand this request to include the CPTPP.  We will target early Spring for a webinar on the two agreements.
